A deafening blast rocked a building near a basilica, sending gruul slaves fleeing in all directions. task masters ran from all quarters in an attempt to quell the seeming rebellion, only to be cut to ribbons alongside many innocent bystanders. Walking out of the smoke, Moldara held her scythe high, the tattered cloak of an ozhov hung on the axe end like a banner. Seeing the slave master walk out horrified as he attempted to solve the situation letting out a bright flash of light, however as Moldara charged she did not yield. lunging up into the air and striking down, ripping him in half. Spinning the Scythe letting molten slag fly out hazing her opponents with liquid metal and various sharp oxide crystals, taking a nearly sadistic glee in the slaughter. "DIE CURS!" she wailed before stopping herself by digging the axe head into the ground sharply stopping her rotation and shattering the ornate stone arrangement of the orzhov symbol breaking it in two. "I WILL BREAK YOU AND YOUR FAITH!" She screamed at a charging boros soldier who turned and fled completely demoralized by her horrific appearance. she laughed, as she watched the smoke rise, slaves fleeing to freedom, and the blood run from orzhov slavers.

Word reached Kalania on the hot Ravi air. It was scattered words; the cry of a slave master here, the whoop of a freed slave there, the whisper of a townsfolk there. Regardless, the Lightkeeper rose, and left her papers atop her desk, strapping a spear to her back and opening her window wide. A high, shrill whistle, and a griffin swooped down. She climbed atop it, settled in, and arced towards the outskirts of the Orzhov district, frowning to herself. She had so much to do still. Legislation to draft, papers to finish, a meeting late in her day. This would have to be resolved quickly, and, with that thought in mind, she directed her griffin on yet faster. Once they came to the edge of the district, her griffin dove, and she leapt from it, landing gracefully. It was not hard to find the source, especially not as an Orzhov slaver ran up to her, barely composed. "Speak," she said curtly, eyes flashing harshly in the light that seemed to emanate from her. "L-lightkeeper, thank goodness you've come--" "I asked not for flattery," she cut in. "I said speak. What has happened here?" As best he could, he explained as she adjusted the weapon on her waist, and unstrapped her spear. When he had finished, she huffed. "I say it serves you right for enslaving those with no means to fight back." As he opened his mouth to protest, magic arced around him, silencing his words. "But, such a danger cannot go unanswered. Evacuate the nearby shops and homes. I fear this may... well, get quite explosive." Kalania's steps were sure, and it took her little time to find the burnt out remains of the slaver camp.

Moldara looked to see a light keeper running toward the square, as the buildings burned around her, taking to the basilica and other surrounding buildings, Moldara raised her hands like a conductor, orchestrating the devastation. before finally raising her hands high shaking she brought them down to completely demolish the basilica that stood in front of her. she turned and bowed, before picking her scythe out of the ground, and attempting to simply walk away. "enjoy the show?" She winked and blew a kiss in the form of a ring of smoke to the lightkeeper. "don't even try to stop me." she laughed, twirling her axe blade, which send blood flying. upon stopping it revealed the symbol of mogis' personal blessing, "I wouldn't want to soil such a nice looking uniform anyway." when she laughed, spittle of slag flew from the mouth piece, as the mouth and eyes leaked molten metal which flowed into various tubes that were routed through the semblance of armor. Moldara simply, if uninterrupted would walk past the lightkeeper without a second thought.

"I am afraid," Kalania said silkily, light arcing from her spear and interlocking between the ruined buildings, "That I cannot merely allow you to wreak havoc on this city. What is it you seek in burning the district to the ground? The return of Rakdos?" Moldara could see that the Lightkeeper was more interested in her motivation than why she had come to destroy a district. Perhaps strange for an Azorius, but Moldara could sense that Kalania was quite odd, especially for the Azorius. Two weapons of strange make, and eyes that searched, not for a crime, but for motive.
While it was unquestionable that Moldara had caused havoc, had broken countless laws, perhaps there was still a glimmer within her that would prove it was not sheer malevolence.

"the return of Rakdos, Pfff" she laughed off, using her scythe in a playful manner to hook the spear and lift the bar allowing her to move, however if the spear didn't move she would simply slide under the bar and continue walking. "stupid law mages, clearly justice is blind, maybe you should get your eyes checked." She hooked her scythe into the side of the rubble hauling out a orzhov signet, flicking it toward her. "dime a donzen, label it a hate crime with extreme prejudice, premeditated with malevolent intent, and... armed with a deadly weapon." she said with pride as she twirled her scythe like a baton, sending sparks flying in the air, as she slashed through a banner that blocked her path, setting it alight as she walked. "you know" looking behind her. "if i was in bed with rakdos, you'd be dead right now, whoever you are, jessy law." she joked, in a care free manner as a civilian crawled out of the rubble only for her scythe to cleanly carve her head off. "ok that one was an accident..." she looked back as she walked. "Oooo... an izzet too... darn..." she winced a little but didn't stop. "mogis wouldn't care." attempting to reassure herself.

Kalania intercepted the blade with the tip of her spear, flicking it almost effortlessly and sending Moldara skidding back. Wrapping protective magic around herself, she levitated the boulders off the civilian, helping him to his feet, and urging healing magic into his body. But she caught the signet, regardless, and tossed it aside. "You harm more of the innocent than the guilty with this," she said, pinpointing in on the attempt at assuaging guilt. "The Orzhov care not for this district, only for their profits. This?" She cast her hands out, spear alighting on the rubble of another building. "This is a child's tantrum, a destructive cry, and you harm naught but those who deserve it not."
Kalania kicked over the body of a slaver. "For every slaver killed here today, how many innocents? How much blood spilled, and for what? A message that will never be received."

"Mogis knows." She her face tilted up. "and that's strong words from someone, who's clearly compensating for a lack of self worth, doing charitable deeds to make yourself feel better. everyone has deep destructive desires." She glanced at the izzet man. "it's not like a meant to kill you, but it's not like your death would have impacted anything. besides, your kind experiments on people all the time, why not kill you." she laughed, looking at the serious composure of the lightkeepers face. "i'm taking this very seriously. besides, if you know their only scumming for profits on these people, why not arrest them? unless, of course, they paid you off?" she turned to leave again, only to notice the wall. "who's really the bad guy, or well..." she scratched the side of her head. "bad girl?" she looked to the sky, to see a few other boros approaching. "I've never seen hoplites fly before?"

"You--" She sighed, and shook her head, spear dipping to the ground. "You don't understand. There's nothing so simple in this city as just cutting the roots away. It's far too deep of a cancer, and no matter if I don't accept bribes, there will always be someone who does."
From the tip of her spear, a thin, almost invisible arc of light pierced the sky, and the approaching Boros stopped. Kalania turned, spear dragging on the cobblestones, pacing, if only to have something to do. "I do not, as you suggest, merely do what I do to compensate for some sick desires. This is simply how I am, and, if it were so simple as turning the Orzhov inside out, I would have done it long ago." She stopped, stabbing the point of the spear into the stones and unearthing another signet. "But between the Guildpact and the ever-reaching corruption, I fear it's a lost battle."
It would take more than just Kalania, after all.

"see..." she turned "your fire has died..." spinning her scythe to the axe end. "those who's light dies... perish... as Mogis foretells." She leap up into the air, striking down with her axe head, the executioners blade falling toward her, and striking deeply. sending slag into her wounds, "when you give up, you deserve to die." She spins around striking again, with the scythe end this time, hooking her around and attempting to throw her to the ground, if successful she points the axe end to her face. "if you truely believed in your ideals, you wouldn't let the odds determine your fate, wade into the gore of battle each time without fear, for fear..." she stared into her face, with powerful magic, attempting to further demoralize her. "is death." then she reached up with the axe head, holding her down with one foot on her throat, and then swinging down to execute...

But it was not a dying of fire, but a burning of light, and as the first blade strike came into contact, Kalania's spear arced up, cutting through the slag and striking towards Moldara's chest. "You misunderstand," the Lightkeeper said softly, turning Moldara's strikes against her. "This is my home. And no matter how corrupt it may be, it will stay my home." Though she did not strike first, she struck true, and as her spear turned strike away, her other hand drew blade, and lashed out. "You speak of fate, of battle, of fear. Yet, I think you fear more than I do, else you would not strike the innocent down, nor destroy their homes." Kalania stepped back, a single step, spear across her chest and blade held loosely in her other hand. "One chance. Leave now, or I'll ensure you find the same fate as any rioters."

Moldara was injured, letting molten metal pour over her wounds cauterizing them, as she screamed in pain. "retreat... never... Mogis... would... send... me... to... underworld..." She spoke in between breathes as she steadied herself. then lunging out toward the law mage once more, ensuring her strikes wouldn't fail. Digging her scythe through the lightbringers chest. "how..." Moldara took heavy breathes as she started to grow exhausted. "are... you still... fighting? a mortal... would have died!" she screamed, ripping the scythe from her chest, ensuring sever damage on both sides as the grievous wounds Moldara had suffered started to mount. Moldara staggered, and fell to her knee, propping herself up with the scythe, "Your not Mortal... your must be more!" Moldara paused attempting to catch her breath as she thought. "your like me!" Suddenly, Moldara was afraid.

Though the blade lodged in her chest, and she inhaled, blood spilling over her robes, the blade shattered within her chest instead. From the shattered blade, light arced around her body, bathing her in radiance that hurt Moldara's eyes. That only intensified as Kalania cast the shattered blade away, wound still plain on her robes. Yet, still, the Lightkeeper recognized the worry of Mogis, of this... underworld, and instead of striking the Vedalken down, Kalania stepped forward. Moldara's wounds, much as her own, had worsened, and now, the Lightkeeper placed her hand on Moldara's cheek, almost cradling it. "It is not malevolence in you, I sense," she said, words soothing and assuaging her wounds, if only for a moment. "Rest, now, and find your way." It was an almost overwhelming sense of peace that overcame Moldara, and her wounds, at least for the moment, ceased to pain her.

Moldara laid down, her scythe, broken blade falling down beside her. "I was afraid..." She Curled up slowly, letting out an agonized groan, although she didn't feel pain. "and i failed..." Moldara's face plate fell off, revealing the beaten and bruised face of an abused child, she would be able to note her sickly red hot skin. "Mogis..." her eyes remain tightly closed. "surely i haven't fallen out of favor..." she remained still for several minutes, then she lashed out, gripping her armor, pulling the lawrbinger close "i don't know who you are... but i..." she hesitated. "will remember this..." Moldara fell through a dark portal, which she would clearly be able to see some kind of dwelling on the other side, a dark forge, likely if she knew the multiverse, resembled kaladesh's underground refineries, yet there was something distinctly therosian about it. Moldara let go falling into the portal and it closed behind her, she could see the last few Seconds of Moldara falling into a bed below with soot stained sheets. when the portal closed all the was left behind, was the face plate, still scalding to the touch on one side, while cool and padded on the other.

"Sleep well, child, and rest."
As the portal opened, and Moldara fell through, eyes shut and bed waiting, Kalania stood again, tucking the faceplate away into the hem of her robes. Almost immediately, she stumbled again, hand pressed to her chest, and blood spilling from it. Once more, she pressed her spear into the ground as best she could, light arcing through to the sky. Immediately, the legionnaires arced down, words spilling from their mouths, as Kalania's eyes slipped shut. One of the Boros medics began tending to her, while others began to scour the wreckage for survivors.
Night came and went, and Kalania awoke in the morning, chest bandaged almost tightly enough to the point of pain, and the curious faceplate resting on the stand next to her bed in the infirmary. Next to it was an unmarked envelope, one she opened, and read with a soft laugh, her eyes slipping shut again.
Ravnica may have been broken, and rotten at its roots, but it was her home. And her home, it would stay.
